Ranchero-Deep Creek Fire Department was established in 1983 to serve the local agricultural community of Deep Creek and the urban area of Salmon Arm called Ranchero. Our immediate area covers about 220 square kilometres and we have mutual aid agreements in place with Salmon Arm, Enderby, Armstrong, and Swansea Point. We are part of the regional fire protection under the authority of Columbia Shuswap Regional District and give support into it in times of need.
Currently are we operating one first class engine built by HUB and two water tenders, one of which is a 4 wheel drive, the first of its class in the CSRD. Our fire station is located at the junction of Hwy 97B and Deep Creek Road.
In 2008 we became a paid on call fire department and our local training takes place at the Regional Training Center located in Salmon Arm. We have been under the auspices of the Justice Institute of British Columbia with the Fire Academy Certification Program since 1986. We have 24 active members and a local fire suppression crew that oversees the department fiscal operation. We work closely with BC Forest Service in suppression of interface fires that can plague our communities during our hot dry summers. Several of our members are Structural Protection Unit qualified personnel and have been deployed across the province working on its many large wildfires.
We respond to about 20 to 30 calls each year. Our dispatch service is through Surrey Fire Services in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia.
